Jens Troester received his early musical training in Frankfurt, Cologne, Vienna and New York.

He chose the School of Music at the Indiana University in Bloomington for his conducting studies, and became a coach and assistant conductor at the renowned IU Opera Theater. There he worked on repertoire ranging from Idomeneo to Wozzeck, and made his debut with the operas Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi by Puccini.

His subsequent career led him to the Kiel Opera, Theater Neustrelitz/Neubrandenburg, and Staatstheater Kassel, before becoming First Kapellmeister with Theater und Philharmonie Thüringen in Gera and Altenburg. For the final two seasons of his five years there, he led the 78-piece Philharmonic Orchestra as Acting General Music Director, programming and conducting the theater’s major operatic productions and a large number of symphonic concerts.

During his time in Gera, he received critical acclaim for a series of productions of rediscovered works of the early 20th century. The premieres of the operas Scharlatan by Pavel Haas, and Ulenspiegel by Walter Braunfels were broadcast live on national radio, and reviewed enthusiastically by the international press. In Altenburg he established the popular Philharmonic Concert Series at Altenburg Castle.

In addition to his engagements at German theaters, he was Music Director of the Camerata Kiel, and had guest engagements with the Frankfurt Chamber Opera, and the Schlossgartenfestspiele Neustrelitz, Germany‘s largest operetta festival.

In 2018, he became the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt. This young, ambitious orchestra, which has in recent years made a name for itself by touring internationally with stars like José Carreras, Deep Purple, and David Garrett, plays classical symphonic concerts, large open-air-events, and cross-over-repertoire under his direction.

As conductor of film concerts, Jens Troester is a regular guest with national and international orchestras, while also being successful as a composer, arranger, and chamber musician.
